NASS Received Status Quo On Constitution Amendment

The Supreme Court has banned the National Assembly from taking further steps towards amending the 1999 constitution.
According to Vanguard, a panel consisted of seven justices of the apex court, head by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, ‎Justice Mahmud Mohammed, demanded the National Assembly to keep status quo on the case until June 18.
The apex court further ordered the issuance of hearing notice on the NASS for it to appear on that date to answer to the matter that was lodged against the proposed changes to the constitution, by the incumbentPresident Goodluck Jonathan.
President Jonathan did not sign the document presented by the National Assembly because the amendment supposedly did not meet the provisions of Section 9 (3) of the 1999 Constitution
The decision of the president caused outrage among senators. They said that there were two choices before the National Assembly on the case: either the institution supports the position of Jonathan or goes ahead to prevail it.
Majority of the senators said they are ready to meet presidency in court.
