El-Rufai Laments Over Inheriting Bankrupt Governments

Nasir El-Rufai, Kaduna state governor-elect, has called on Nigerians to stop congratulating him and the president-elect, Muhammadu Buhari. Instead, he asked people to pray for them to succeed with the bankrupt economy they are inheriting.

The Nation reports that the governor-elect made the appeal to Nigerians speaking at two special events held at Arewa House in Kaduna on Sunday, May 17.
These functions were special reception for elected officials by Kaduna Peoples’ Association (KAPA) and special prayer for them by APC Yoruba Political Forum.
“When people call me to congratulate me or come to congratulate me and General Buhari, I always tell them, thank you, but what we need is your sympathy and prayers. This is because, myself and Generl Buhari are taking over bankrupt governments; it is so bad that, the Jonathan administration is finding it difficult to pay salaries, in fact, they had to obtain loan to pay salaries,” the governor said.
El-Rufai told KAPA that Kaduna state has contracted a debt of over N90billion. However, he added that the amount might increase to N100billion before the May 29 handing over ceremony.
Therefore, he stressed that his government would not share the public fund to any persons or group, no matter how highly ranked they are.
Continuing his statement, El-Rufai called on other elected officials to be ready to work for the people who voted for them and remove greed and selfishness in the discharge of their duties. The governor warned the officials that if they failed to work for the people, they would chase them out the way they did to the PDP.
‎El-Rufai took the opportunity to express gratitude to the Yoruba community for the overwhelming support given to Muhammadu Buhari and his party, adding that Yoruba people have become very powerful anchor of national unity.

Earlier this week the governor-elect accused the PDP of stealing money from the nations treasury. Hoewever, he assured Nigerians that the incoming administration would make sure that all the funds allegedly stollen by Jonathan’s administration would be returned to the public coffers.
